Two Mile Borris Graveyard Update

Updated: Apr 28

Burial Plots are now available for purchase within the new Two Mile Borris Graveyard, which

is currently under development.

A contribution of €1,000 will secure your burial plot once the graveyard is open.

Adjacent plots may be requested and every effort will be made to accommodate this on the

requirement of the first burial space.

Terms of Purchase:

  • Until the graveyard is operational your payment will be regarded as a valuable contribution to the project.

  • On completion of the graveyard you will be issued with a Right-of-Burial Deed.

  • The graveyard is expected to be finished by the end of 2025.

  • If, by some unfortunate occurrence, the grave is required before the completion of the

extension, a refund can be provided, or alternatively, we will investigate the possibility of

providing a burial place in the historical section of the existing graveyard.

  1. Can I choose where my plot is located?

Yes. At the moment  we are in a position to offer members of our community the opportunity to choose where their grave plot will be located within the first five plinths/rows). Purchase of graves by extended Family groupings can easily be accommodated at the this stage of development.

A member of the committee will be in contact with you to confirm if you would like to choose a location. You may also contact them directly.

3. If in the future If I need to change to a different cemetery can I get a refund?

Yes, we can arrange a refund if required .

  1. Who can purchase a plot?

Any person currently residing in the area, at time of purchase, is considered a member of the community and therefore may purchase a plot in the community graveyard. Regardless of property ownership(i.e. renting/homeowner) or length of time living in the village.

  1. What is a “lawn cemetery?

A Lawn Cemetery is a grass lawn cemetery in which monuments, kerbs and surrounds are not permitted and where burial plots are maintained as grassed areas. Lisbunny in Nenagh is an example of a lawn cemetery. Our planning application was submitted for a traditional graveyard , however when planning permission was granted one of the conditions was that it would be a lawn cemetery .

  1. Will headstones be allowed?

Yes, head stones are permitted within the specifications. No headstone or Celtic Cross shall exceed 1.2m (3*11**) in height above plint level.

  1. Are monuments allowed ?

No strictly standard headstones only

  1. Do I own the grave plot once I make the purchase?

Once the graveyard opens you will be issued with a Right to Burial Deed. This means that you will then own the grave plot in perpetuity. Meaning, you have the right to burial, within the designated space, forever. We expect to open the graveyard by the end of

2025.

  1. How do I gift a grave to someone else?

Our receipt system is formatted to accommodate  this . When purchasing a grave  the purchaser and the right of  burial deed owner can be  the same person or alternatively when  gifting the purchaser can nominate the  right of burial deed owner

  1. I am not a catholic, can I still be buried in this graveyard?

Yes, this is a non-denominational burial ground.

  1. Will the cost of burial space / plot increase?

At the moment the burial plots in our graveyard are costed at €1000 . This price will be maintained for as long as possible but it may increase in the future.

  1. Will there be a  columbarium wall ?

A columbarium wall and a storage shed were included in our planning application , These will be built at a later stage , hopefully soon after the graveyard is operational (subject to availability of funding )
